Surface cleaning & disinfection is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of infection. Various studies have shown that contaminated surfaces are an established route of transmission for high-risk pathogens.1
The covid-19 pandemic has reinforced why it is so important to practice good hygiene and ensure surfaces, particularly those that are classed as ‘high-risk’, are cleaned and disinfected frequently avoiding any chance of cross contamination. High-risk areas are those more likely to become contaminated with bodily fluids (for example commodes) and other frequently-handled re-usable equipment, which subsequently provide a higher risk of transmission of infectious diseases. This is especially important within communal bathrooms and other shared areas.

Got a question? Ask our experts.
Effective surface cleaning and disinfection requires a combination of appropriate product and practice. Multiple human factors can affect cleaning and disinfection outcomes, with some observational studies noting that high-touch surfaces are sometimes only briefly wiped, sometimes for as little as 1-2 seconds.2
Using the right amount of wipes for the right amount of time is critical to achieving effective surface disinfection. A recent study found that a wipe’s effectiveness was significantly greater when only a 1-2ft2 area was wiped, as opposed to when an 8 ft2 area was wiped with a single wipe.3
